Contractors boycott tenders already submitted

Panchayat blacklisted four contractors Contractors submitted bogus bills without supplying foodgrains

DAVANGERE: Tenders for supplying foodgrains to various hostels being run by the social welfare and backward class hostels, had been postponed for the third time today following the boycott of the contractors who submitted their tenders.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the zilla panchayat Mr. Chikkabudhi had to postpone the tenders as the contractors refused to take part in the meeting as the panchayat blacklisted four contractors recently.

The contractors urged the CEO and the president of the panchayat Chidanandappa to consider the four contractors for the tender process. The CEO pointed out that the panchayat recently passed a resolution that these contractors could not be considered for the tenders. The contractors argued that the panchayat had no powers to blacklist them and that they should be considered.

The CEO said that there were serious allegations that the contractors had submitted bogus bills without supplying foodgrains and hence the decision to blacklist them. Unless the body revokes its decision, the contractors cannot be considered, he added. After a detailed discussion, the CEO and the president decided to postpone the meeting without opening any tenders. Meanwhile the president said that he would call for fresh tenders and that the contractors will not participate in the tender, as they are not eligible.
