Chamber seeks bridges at four places in Bellary

BELLARY: The Bellary District Chamber of Commerce and Industry has urged Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to release funds to construct railway bridges at four places in the city.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, chamber president Phaneendra Babu said people were facing inconvenience owing to the closure of the railway gates to enable the movement of trains. Satyanarayanpet gate is one among the four gates situated in the heart of the city. Due to the increase in the number of goods trains between Hospet and Guntakal, the four gates would be closed most part of the day. To tide over the problem, the Railways had been requested to build bridges at least at two places to ease traffic congestion. The foundation stone for a bridge was laid by Basavaraj Patil Yatnal, Minister of State for Railways, two years ago, the letter said. In reply, the Railways had stated the work on a bridge at Satyanarayanpet was could not be taken up for want of funds, with the State's share of Rs. 3.74 crore, the letter said.

Mr. Babu urged the Chief Minister to take steps to release funds to enable the Railways to implement the project at the earliest.

He drew the attention of the Chief Minister to the Railways' decision of dropping the construction of a bridge near Sudha Cross Gate. An overpass there would enable free movement of vehicles between Hospet and Bellary, he said.
