The police gave a chase to the culprits and arrested them following a tip off

HASSAN: The Hassan district police foiled an attempt to kidnap a woman near Gandsi hand post in Arsikere taluk on Monday and arrested seven persons in connection with the incident, according to Superintendent of Police Panduranga Rane.

Mr. Rane said Naveen, Ravi, Shivanna, Krishna, Kantharaju, Devaraju and Mohan tried to kidnap Roopa, a lecturer, working in Keonics, and on "credible information", the Hassan and Gandsi police gave a chase to the alleged kidnappers and got the woman released.

He said Naveen and Roopa knew each other during their school days and Naveen's parents met Roopa's parents a few days ago with a marriage proposal. However, the Roopa's father refused to accept it.

Angered by this, Naveen, with the help of his friends, planned to abduct Roopa and marry her at the temple on Chamundi Hills in Mysore, he said.

However, the police were tipped off and when they abducted Roopa near Gandsi hand post and drove towards Mysore, the police team chased them for nearly five kilometres and arrested them, he added.
