`Deve Gowda is responsible for leaders leaving JD(S)'

DAVANGERE: K. Mallappa, former MLA, who was associated with the Janata Parivar since 1956, has decided to follow Siddaramaiah, former Deputy Chief Minister, and join the Congress during a convention to be held in Bangalore shortly.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Mallappa, who was also an MLC, said former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda was responsible for number of leaders and workers of the Janata Dal (Secular) leaving the party and joining the Congress. He alleged that Mr. Deve Gowda had sacrificed the interests of the party, and added that he had betrayed leaders such as Ramakrishna Hegde, S.R. Bommai and Siddaramaiah.

Shortcomings

Mr. Mallappa said he was fed up with the affairs of the Janata Dal (S) that he had decided to join the Congress.

Asked how mentally prepared he was to join the Congress after he had criticised the party for five decades and organised agitations against it in Davnagere and surrounding areas, he said he was confident that he could set right some of the shortcomings of the party and serve the people.

Position

Asked whether any definite position was given to him, he said he had never sought a position in his political career and would never demand one.

Syed Saifulla, former chairman of the Wakf Board and senior Janata Dal (S) leader, Kengo Hanumanthappa and other leaders of the AHINDA movement had decided to join the Congress.
