  • Day train sought between Hubli and Guntakal

HOSPET (BELLARY Dist.): Bellary and Hospet are among the five model railway stations in the South Western Railway Zone (SWRZ) to be upgraded and developed in about six months from now.

Trilok Nath Perti, General Manager of SWRZ, told presspersons here on Thursday, that Hubli, Belgaum and Vasco were the other stations to be upgraded. Architects had been hired to come out with designs for the development of these stations.

Mr. Perti said that in view of a large number of tourists visiting Hospet to see the world-famous Hampi, it was decided to provide all necessary facilities, including an air-conditioned waiting room and an additional reservation counter. The work would begin very soon, he said.

On the demand for new direct train services between Hubli and Guntakal, Mr. Perti informed that it would be possible only after the completion of track doubling work between Hospet and Guntakal. He said the work was expected to be completed by the end of December this year.

Mr. Perti said the work on doubling of the track between Hubli and Kusugal and Dharwad-Londa would begin very soon. He said the railway was waiting for the State Government to release Rs. 29 crore, being its share, for taking up gauge conversion between Gadag and Bagalkot. The movement of goods train on the Mangalore-Hassan track had begun. The railway had deferred running passenger trains on this route owing to landslip. Mr. Perti was here to inaugurate Arihant Water Hut, constructed by Babulal Jain, a member of the National Rail Users' Consultative Committee. Rakesh Vatash, Divisional Railway Manager, Hubli, was among the senior officials present.

    Special trains

Mr. Jain submitted a memorandum to the General Manager demanding introduction of day train between Hubli and Guntakal and special trains between Hospet and Bangalore from October 31 to November 8 in view of the Hampi Utsav.
