Belgaum: S.J. Nagalotimath, medical scientist, writer and former Director of Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli, died here on Tuesday. Dr. Nagalotimath was admitted to KLE Society's Hospital with multi-organ failure on October 6. He was 66. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Dr. Nagalotimath's last rites would be performed at 9 a.m. here on Wednesday.
Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and Home Minister M.P.Prakash, who were here to see KLE Society Chairman and MLC Prabhakar B. Kore, met the family members of Dr. Nagalotimath. They said the State had lost a great medical scientist.
Born at Gadag on July 20, 1940, Sadashivayya Jambayya Nagalotimath belonged to a poor family in Banahatti (now in Bagalkot district) and established his identity as a distinguished Pathologist and an able writer.
Dr. Nagalotimath won the gold medal in the final year MBBS Examination of Karnatak University. He passed with first class and obtained Doctor of Medicine in Pathology degree in 1970 and joined J.N. Medical College in Belgaum. His articles on secondary diabetes were published in several international science journals.
