BANGALORE: India International School appointed some students as "eco warriors" to take care of the environment in the school, at an investiture ceremony held recently.

L. Srinivas Reddy, former judge of Karnataka High Court, presided over the ceremony and handed over badges to the students. Trustee and chief executive officer of the institution Nandakumar administered the oath of allegiance. Mr. Reddy said the first step towards moulding their character, behaviour and attitude towards life started at school. Principal Wg.Cdr. Ranjit Kumar Mandal (Retd.) said that the school aimed at overall development of children. He announced the introduction of International Baccalaureate programme from the current year.

Winning laurels

Varsha S., a student of Florence Public School, R.T. Nagar, won the first prize in English elocution at a competition organised by Karuna Welfare Association. She bagged a rolling trophy and was awarded a free PET INDIA subscription for one year. Poornima G. of class X won the `Senior Buoyancee Student of the Year 2006' title.

Sports day

Prasiddhi School, Vasanthnagar, celebrated Junior Sports Day recently. Students of pre-primary and lower primary participated in it. The day commenced with flag-hoisting, which was followed by a colourful march past by children of the upper kindergarten and lower primary sections.

Prize-winners

Students of Carmel School, Padmanabhanagar, won many prizes at the inter-school story writing competition organised by Kathalaya recently. Sanjana. S of class IV has won the first prize, and Arjun Venkatesh the second.

Green cause

The NCC unit of Baldwin Girls' School organised a sapling planting programme at Rajarajeshwarinagar recently. The cadets led by NCC officer Umera Parveen took an oath to keep Bangalore city green.
