BANGALORE: Seven persons died in six road accidents reported from various parts of the city over the weekend while a police driver died of injuries suffered in an accident that occurred last week.

Umashankar (28), who was crossing the road near Bommanahalli on Hosur Road in the early hours on Sunday, was fatally knocked down by a car. The victim, who was an autorickshaw driver, was returning to his vehicle after getting it repaired when the accident occurred. He was a resident of Bommanahalli.

On Sunday night, two software engineers riding a motorcycle were fatally knocked down by a car on the Silk Board flyover. The police gave the names of the dead as Anees (26) and Ajith (27). The car driver fled the place abandoning the vehicle. The Madiwala traffic police have registered separate cases and are investigating.

Puttagangamma (60) was knocked down to death by a lorry when he was crossing the Tumkur Road near Hessarghatta Junction on Sunday. The police have arrested the lorry driver and Peenya Traffic Police have registered a case.

In another accident, Abdul Azeez (43) came under the wheels of a BMTC bus that was backing up in Kalasipalya on Sunday night. A resident of Hongasandra near Bommanahalli, Azeez was running a teashop in Kalasipalya. The accident occurred when he was on his way back home.

Vinod (21), riding a motorcycle, died on the spot when a lorry hit his two-wheeler from behind near SRS Choultry on the Outer Ring Road in K.R. Puram traffic police station limits. Vinod, an employee of Big Bazaar, Old Madras Road, was a resident of Ramakrishna Hegde Nagar.

In another accident reported from K.R. Puram traffic police station limits, Anjaneyalu (25), riding a motorcycle, died on the spot after hitting a parked truck from behind near Doddanekundi Cross on Sunday. The K.R. Puram traffic police have registered two cases.

Somashekhar (35), driver of Attibele Police Circle Inspector, died of injuries at a hospital on Sunday. He was put to divert traffic near Electronics City in Hebbagodi Police Station limits last week.
