HUBLI: Residents of S.M. Krishna Nagar Ashraya Colony under the aegis of the Hubli-Dharwad Ashraya Nivasigala Kshemabhivruddhi Sangha staged a dharna outside the office of the Municipal Commissioner here on Thursday against a fake water supply committee.
The residents alleged that four persons, Lakkadahara, Talikoti, Bashir Ahmed Chikkalagar and Mushtaq Bagadaj, had formed a water supply committee in the area where one thousand houses had been built under the Ashraya scheme.
Although the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation had drilled borewells in the area, members of this committee were demanding money from residents for supplying water.
The protestors alleged that the committee members had provided water supply connection to those who paid them by installing inferior quality pipelines and were demanding a monthly fee for their service. Those who refused to pay were being threatened, the protestors alleged. Office-bearers of sangha Babajan Mudhol, Rajashekhar Menasinkai, Devanand Jagapur, B.A. Mudhol and others led the protest and urged the corporation officials to take action against members of this committee.
