GULBARGA: Passengers travelling by a private maxicab from Kamalapur to Gulbarga on Monday had a miraculous escape when the vehicle lost control and fell into a 20-foot ditch on the Gulbarga-Bidar National Highway at Kapnur village on the outskirts of the city.
Police said at least 25 persons, including five women and two children, suffered serious injuries. A few suffering multiple fractures in the accident, in which the speeding vehicle skidded off the road and rolled down the ditch.
The villagers of Kapnur, who rushed to accident spot, helped in rescuing the injured from the mangled vehicle and rushing them to the Government General Hospital for treatment. The condition of at least three of the injured is stated to be serious. The police said that the driver of the vehicle is absconding. Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik, who was in the city, immediately rushed to the accident spot along with the Bharatiya Janata Party district unit president Amarnath Patil. He visited the Government General Hospital and consoled the accident victims and directed the doctors to provide best possible treatment to the victims and, if needed, shift the injured to higher centres for treatment.
All the victims hailed from villages in the surrounding of Kamalapur town including Bhunyar, Avrad, Kurikota and other villages.
