He objects to criticism of his father by Congress and BJP leaders

HASSAN: The former Minister and senior Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Revanna has taken exception to reported statements by Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress leaders against his father H.D. Deve Gowda charging him with having done nothing for the welfare of Hassan district as well as for Karnataka. He questioned leaders of both parties as to what their contributions were to the district and State.

Speaking to The Hindu at his residence in Holenarsipur on Sunday, Mr. Revanna said Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa should be grateful to former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy all through his life. Had it not been for Mr. Kumaraswamy, Mr. Yeddyurappa would not have become Minister, let alone Chief Minister.

Mr. Yeddyurappa had in turn done nothing for the district, which showed his attitude. Mr. Revanna claimed that the BJP did not have competent candidates and hence was trying to poach leaders from other parties. Except for releasing funds liberally to Shikaripur (represented by Mr. Yeddyurappa) and Haveri (represented by C.M. Udasi), the BJP had done nothing for other districts, he alleged.

Reminder

Mr. Revanna said the Chief Minister had forgotten that it was Mr. Deve Gowda, who, as Member of Parliament, had channelled Rs. 1,770 crore worth funds from the Centre towards Karnataka for its development.

He claimed that it was Mr. Kumaraswamy who as Chief Minister, released Rs. 40 crore for the new KSRTC Bus Stand in Hassan. Mr. Revanna alleged that life under the BJP regime was a “nightmare” for people in Hassan district. Except for political vendetta, it had done nothing for the people here. Hassan district was conveniently ignored in the recent budget presented by the Chief Minister. No funds had been released for development projects.

Befitting reply

All ongoing works had also come to a halt. Mr. Revanna hoped the people of the district would give the BJP a befitting reply through the elections.
