Bangalore: Several lakhs worth of jewellery and handicraft items were destroyed in a fire at the Cauvery Industries Exhibits on M.G. Road here on Friday. The Ulsoor polic said a short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire. They said the fire broke out at 2.30 a.m. The manager, Azar Ahammad, has lodged a complaint. There was no one in the showroom, which was partly gutted.

Missing girl returns

A 21-year-old girl, missing since March 21, returned home saying she was kidnapped and raped by a taxi driver. In a complaint to the Hanumantanagar police, the girl, a college student, said she was kidnapped by Babu, a taxi driver, on March 20, and was confined in a room in Poduhalli near Utharahalli and raped. She managed to escape and filed the complaint on Thursday. The police have arrested Babu, a resident of Utharahalli.

Woman dead

Chennamma (35), a homemaker, who was injured in an LPG cylinder blast in her home in Attur Layout near Yelahanka New town, succumbed to her burns at the Victoria Hospital here on Thursday night.


A businessman was robbed of Rs. 1 lakh at knifepoint on Jain Temple Road near Madhav Nagar here on Thursday night. Manjunath (24), a resident of Peenya 4th stage, told the High Grounds police that a gang of four accosted him and snatched the money.


Thieves stole Rs. 20,000 worth of valuables from the house of a Sessions judge at Judicial Layout near Yelahanka on Thursday. The Yelahanka police said the thieves drilled a hole in the wall of Judge Hosur’s house when he was away in Chennai.

Money stolen

As much as Rs. 32,000 was stolen from the Guardian Cooperative Bank on Commercial Street here on Thursday evening. The theft was noticed only an hour later.
