While the Mahatma Gandhi Road has undergone a sea change with the construction of Namma Metro viaduct, people walking from Anil Kumble Circle to the metro station are put to inconvenience.
Pedestrians get squeezed between speeding vehicles and the barricade put up for the reconstruction of the promenade. The situation becomes worse during holidays.
Chitra M.R., a mother of two, says her family prefers to walk to the Mahatma Gandhi Road Metro Station after spending the afternoon at Cubbon Park during holidays. Though walking on the left is a short-cut, Ms. Chitra is apprehensive of getting knocked down by a moving vehicle. Her husband, Raghavendra Shetty, said the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation authorities should have provided a little space between the barricade and the pillars for pedestrians.
Mr. Shetty said the civil works for restoration of the boulevard were going in a slow pace and they do not require the entire land in between the pillars and Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa Park. BMRCL authorities should have considered the plight of pedestrians as they have not yet provided access to the station from the Plaza theatre site, he said.
A BMRCL spokesperson said the civil works need the space in between the pillars and the compound. He said the corporation would examine the possibility of pushing the barricade back to the extent possible for a safe walk.
