Bagalkot: Deputy Commissioner H.G. Shrivar has said that stringent action will be taken against those indulging in ragging in educational institutions in Bagalkot district.

Presiding over a meeting to review development activities recently, he said that students involved in ragging could be sentenced to one-year imprisonment or they might have to pay fine up to Rs. 2,000.

He instructed officials concerned to inform managements of school and college in the district in this regard. Managements should inform authorities concerned if there were any reports of ragging and cooperate in initiating action against the accused, he added. He said that committees be set up in institutions to create awareness among students in this regard.

Advice

Superintendent of Police T.R. Suresh advised students to approach the nearest police station and file a case against persons involved in ragging without any hesitation.

Heads of various education institutions were present.
