DAVANGERE: Hemalatha Mahishi, Member and Legal Adviser of the Justice B.K. Somashekara Commission of Inquiry that is probing the attacks on churches in the State, held a hearing here on Monday.

Ms. Mahishi had summoned all those who filed affidavits relating to the inquiry here and had them verified for authenticity. She spoke to each of those who had filed the affidavits.

A few persons told the commission that almost all churches that were attacked were functioning as usual and no untoward incidents had occurred in the recent past. They also urged the commission to direct the Government to provide permanent security to churches in the district so that such incidents did not recur.

They also appealed to the commission to direct the Government to compensate the places of worship for damages caused.

Assistant Commissioner of Davangere Janaki was present at the hearing.
