Bangalore: Two police personnel attached to the Mahadevapura police station were injured and treated at a hospital after they were allegedly assaulted by a few pavement vendors near the ring road at Mahadevapura Gate here on Wednesday night.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Banne Gowda and police constable Jeenappa were injured in the attack. The victims said that they were asking the vendors who were selling food beyond 11.30 p.m. to close shop. Three vendors, who were inebriated, attacked the policemen. The police have arrested a push cart vendor Venkataramanappa on charge of assaulting the policemen.
Three men attacked a businessman on Mysore Road near Jnanabharathi Gate here on Wednesday night and robbed him of his gold chain estimated at Rs. 50,000.
According to victim Abhiram Karunya, a native of Ashokapuram in Mandya, he was travelling in his car, which broke down around 11.30 p.m. near the Jnanabharathi Gate.
Mr. Karunya was waiting for help from a mechanic. The accused, who were on two motorcycles, assaulted him and snatched the chain. Jnanabharathi police are investigating.
Two suicidal deaths were reported in the city on Wednesday. Lakshmi, a housewife and a resident of Doddabanasavadi, died of burns in the Victoria Hospital here on Wednesday. She had attempted suicide on July 13 by setting herself on fire and was shifted to the hospital.
According to the Banasavadi police, the reason for her suicide is not known. In another incident, Radhamma (20), who was married a year ago, committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Laggere on Wednesday. The reason for her act was yet to be ascertained, said the Rajagopalanagar police, who are investigating.
