Department to take a call on extending deadline today
If your LPG connection has been suspended by the Department of Food and Civil Supplies and you feel the department has erred in doing so, you still have time to furnish your details till August 4. Also, the department may extend the 15-day deadline given to consumers on July 20.
Commissioner of Food and Civil Supplies K.H. Govinda Raj told The Hindu Tuesday that the department will take a call on the deadline extension on Wednesday (August 3).
What you can do
Consumers can visit the nearest office of the Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies and furnish their documents. They can also visit http://ahara.kar.nic.in and upload their electricity bills with RR number, gas agency bill with consumer number and ration card if you have.
Connections have been suspended in cases of non-submission of RR number; no RR for LPG connection; mismatch of RR number with LPG connection and LPG number with a commercial RR number. Even as several consumers are fuming over the confusion, blaming the department for the mess, Mr. Raj said only 2.6 lakh consumers of the 17.5 lakh whose connections had been suspended had actually applied for rectification. “This shows that the remaining connections are not genuine,” he said.
Of the 2.6 lakh consumers who had uploaded their details, connections of 82,000 consumers had been restored as of Tuesday evening. While 5,400 applications were rejected on the ground of false claims, the rest are being processed, he said.
‘Don't panic'
Calling upon people not to panic, Mr. Raj said officials will undertake physical verification of the claims after the uploaded documents are verified.
Reacting to complaints of connections being suspended because of multiple LPG numbers with same RR number, the Commissioner said claims of such consumers will be verified physically later.
“If there are multiple dwelling units with separate kitchens for only one RR number, department officials will physically verify the units and recommend restoring the LPG connection,” he added.
