YELANDUR: “I am in Mysore not for real estate business or transfer business. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has assigned me the task of developing the district.”

This is how Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and Mysore district in-charge Shobha Karandlaje responded to criticism against her on Friday.

Ms. Karandlaje, who was in Yelandur to campaign for the BJP candidate contesting the byelection for Kollegal Assembly seat, was speaking to presspersons.

Responding to detractors who want her to be relieved of the charge of Mysore district, Ms. Karandlaje said it was the decision of the party high command to make her the in-charge Minister of Mysore. Ms. Karandlaje said that she was doing her best to take into confidence all leaders of the party and work for development of the district. She claimed that she had not taken any unilateral decision so far.

She had met party MLAs S.A. Ramadas and H.S. Shankarlinge Gowda recently. She said that both of them had clarified that they did not have any qualms over her continuing as the district in-charge Minister of Mysore.

When asked about the “apathy” of the State Government towards addressing burning issues of Chamarajanagar district which had not favoured the BJP in the Assembly and Parliament elections, Ms. Karandlaje said that no discrimination should be made against the constituencies represented by the Opposition parties.

Ms. Karandlaje, who has toured the five Assembly constituencies where byelections will be held on August 18, said that the BJP was confident of winning at least four seats as people were aware of the “pro-people” and “pro-farmer” programmes implemented by the BJP Government.
