PANAJI: The State executive of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held here on Sunday demanded that the Goa Government immediately scrap the special economic zone (SEZ) projects.

It also sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigations into the issue of clearing of the projects and allotment of land for the SEZs during the regime of the erstwhile Congress-led Government of Pratapsingh Rane.

President of the Goa unit of BJP Sripad Naik said after the meeting that the party had demanded that the probe should include the role of former Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane in clearing the projects and the role of former industry Minister Luizinho Faleiro and directors of the State-owned Goa Industrial Development Corporation in allotting Government-acquired land at low rates for the privately-promoted SEZ projects. By another resolution, the State executive described the Digambar Kamat Government as “non-functional” and “prone to crumble under its own weight anytime”, and as such decided to galvanise the party for a mid-term election at any time.

The executive also congratulated Narendra Modi for winning the Gujarat Assembly election.
