BANGALORE: Governor Rameshwar Thakur paid rich tributes to B.R. Ambedkar by garlanding his statue in front of Vidhana Soudha here on Thursday to mark the death anniversary of the “Father of the Constitution”.
Despite a mild drizzle, hundreds of people gathered under the canopy, specially erected for the purpose, and paid their tributes to the late leader.
The formers Minister, H. K. Kumaraswamy and B.B. Ningaiah, Chief Secretary P.B. Mahishi and many senior bureaucrats were present.
AT another function held at the office of the Janata Dal (United), party’s State unit president B. Somashekhar said that some people had been viewing Dr. Ambedkar as a person belonging to a particular community and a State. Such people should shun their parochial thoughts and understand the leader with an open mind.
It was unfortunate that many had not understood the visionary qualities and the broad and humane outlook of Dr. Ambedkar, he said. Mr. Somashekar called upon the socially oppressed and exploited communities to organise and educate themselves for demanding their rights.
