HOSPET (BELLARY DISTRICT): The Hospet-based Vijayanagar Citizens’ Forum has stressed the need for the Hampi Kannada University to play an active role in promoting research on the Vijayanagar empire. This would throw more light on the history of the period and help preserve its remains.

Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, J.R. Ramamurthy, coordinator of the forum said that the University should expand its reach by interacting more with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Department of Archaeology and Museums in its endeavour to promote research. Stating that the University had tremendous scope for growth, he said that it would be possible only when the government gave it continued support.
