G.S. Narayanan of Jayanagar writes: Business Process Outsourcing jobs in general and IT jobs in particular have become a worry of multiple dimensions. Nearly 90 per cent of these employees are in the age group of 20 to 25 years. These young people are developing health problems that hitherto affected only those above 50 years.
Forty hours a week or 160 hours a month is required to be put in by all employees. Usually, we spend 15 hours on work-related activities. If these 15 hours can be broken into three slots of five hours each and flexi-timings adopted, things can be made more comfortable. The slots could be 7 a.m. to noon, noon to 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and the balance nine hours can be broken into two slots as 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. and 3 a.m. to 7 a.m.
Then no employee need get up before 6 a.m. nor go to bed after 11.30 p.m. except those who opt to work in the last two slots.
