Party workers told to popularise achievements of Government

DAVANGERE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has called upon the people not to be under the impression that the present Congress party was the same which had fought for the country’s independence.

Addressing a Davangere and Chitradurga party workers’ conference here on Friday, he said leaders of the previous Congress party were committed to the welfare of the country and had contributed towards its development, which was not true of the present set up. “It is unfortunate that many innocent people, particularly in rural areas are still under the impression that the current Congress party is the same one which had got them independence.”, he said. He called upon his party workers all over the State to dispel this belief among the people. He also appealed to the people to reject the Congress party in the coming civic elections, and help the Government suppress corruption.

He said his Government had successfully provided midday meals to school children despite banning arrack and lottery, in contradistinction to the previous S.M. Krishna Government which had said that that it would make use of income derived from lotteries and sale of arrack to do so.

Political will and concern for the poor should be there for any political party or leader to take such bold decisions, he said.

The Chief Minister also launched a diatribe against the BJP and described both parties as two sides of the same coin. He said the BJP leaders had falsely been claiming credit for the ban on arrack and lottery.

Mr. Kumaraswamy called upon his party workers to visit the houses of each and every voter in his ward and apprise them of the achievements of his Government.
