Flood warning issued along the Don

Residential areas flooded in Guledgud town and Yarguppi village

40 houses have

partially collapsed

in Bagalkot town

BIJAPUR: Normal life was thrown out of gear in Bijapur city and elsewhere in the district following heavy rain even as four people were killed in Bagalkot district in the last 24 hours.

Three persons of a family died when their house collapsed at Pendar Galli in Bagalkot town on Monday night. They were identified as Mohammadsab Kalesab Kaladagi (62) and his grandchildren Muhammad Ilahi (4) and Muhammad Tariq (3). Two others of the family who were injured in the incident have been admitted to government hospital in Bagalkot.

A girl died and three persons were injured after a house collapsed in Pattakal village of Badami taluk in the early hours of Tuesday.

The police gave the name of the dead as Savitha Chavan (3). The injured were treated at primary health centre. Residential areas were flooded in Guledgud town and Yarguppi village, where around 100 families were housed in temporary relief camps. As many as 40 houses have partially collapsed in Bagalkot town. Normal life was also disrupted in Ilkal and Hungund towns, according to reports reaching here. Low-lying areas in Bijapur such as Mahalbagayat, Jumma Masjid Road, Shikarkhana were waterlogged. There was knee-deep water on many lanes in the city.

People had to remain indoors for several hours. Flood warning has been issued along the Don, a tributary of the Krishna. Flash flood in the river had claimed 10 live in June.

Vehicular traffic was disrupted in some rural pockets as overflowing nalas and rivulets inundated roads. Many houses were waterlogged at Handral and Nadahalli village in Muddebihal taluk.

These villages lost road-link as Sogalihalla, a nala, is overflowing.

Bennahalla, a tributary of Malaprabha, has reached danger mark, and any further increase in the water level will disrupt vehicular traffic on National Highway 218 linking Bijapur and Hubli, sources have said.
