BANGALORE: One of the most popular stunt artistes of the Kannada film industry, Johnny, 48, passed away at a private nursing home here on Thursday after a prolonged illness. He had renal failure for the past few years.
Johnny, who hailed from Kerala, was referred to as ‘Negro’ Johnny, and acted in over 300 Kannada films, apart from many Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil movies. Besides being a popular stunt artiste and director, he also played the role of a villain.
Starting his film career in Rajkumar starrer ‘Nanobba Kalla’, Johnny played the role of a villain opposite many contemporary stars, including Vishnuvardhan and Ambareesh. Notable movies in which he acted include ‘Haavina Hede’, ‘Lion Jagapati Rao’, ‘Sahasa Simha’ and ‘Chakravyuha’.
Johnny also lost his eyesight and lived in abject penury during his last days. He is survived by his wife and a daughter. The last rites will be performed at Uttarahalli on Friday.
