Bangalore: The second PU examination will be held ahead of the SSLC examination from this academic year, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S. Horatti announced here on Wednesday.

This decision has been taken to help those seeking admission to IITs, since entrance dates of the two examinations used to clash earlier.

Speaking to presspersons after inaugurating a state-of-the-art training centre at the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan complex here on Thursday, he said that PU examination would be held in March. SSLC exams would be held soon after by mid-April, he added.

The State Government had taken a decision to make physical education compulsory in classes from I to X as per the recommendations of the L.R. Vaidyanathan Report, said Mr. Horatti. The Government had taken up building classrooms and appointing teachers on priority and drawn up a list of vacancies in schools and PU colleges. A notification on recruitments would be issued in the next three days, he added.

L.K. Atheeq, the State Project Director of SSA who will soon be leaving for an assignment in the Prime Minister’s office, said that the well-equipped training centre was part of a larger capacity building exercise of the department.
