Nearly 1.5 beneficiaries identified; LIC to issue bonds

HASSAN: The much awaited Bhagya Lakshmi Scheme for the girl child will be formally launched on August 6 at a function in front of the Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore, Minister for Woman and Child Development H.K. Kumaraswamy has said.

He was addressing presspersons at Yagachi Dam Guesthouse near Belur on Wednesday.

Bonds under the scheme would be distributed to the beneficiaries by the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister.

Nearly 1.5 lakh beneficiaries have been identified and LIC of India is entrusted with issuing the bonds.

At the main function in Bangalore, 7,000 bonds would be issued, he said.

Beneficiaries from Bangalore Urban and Bangalore Rural districts have been invited to the function, apart from 50 children each from the districts.

The beneficiaries include those selected in 2006 and 2007.


The Minister said that for beneficiaries selected in 2006, the bonds will be of the value of Rs. 10,850.

For those selected in 2007, it would be of the value of Rs. 10,000. LIC will pay Rs. 34,750 when the child attains the age of 18.
