Ahmeds’ mother and sister taken to undisclosed place for questioning
BANGALORE: Bangalore police are investigating whether Kafeel Ahmed and his younger brother Sabeel Ahmed, who have been detained by the U.K. police for their suspected role in the Glasgow terror attack, had visited Bangalore in May with a specific purpose.
Though their family members have claimed that Kafeel and Sabeel were here on a personal visit, the police are investigating whether they had come here to make preparations for the attack, highly placed sources in the police told The Hindu here on Friday.
As it was a suicide attack, the other possible reason behind their visit, the sources said, could be to call on their family members. While Kafeel left for London from here on May 5, Sabeel followed him on May 13.
The last call
According to the sources, during his last telephone conversation with his family, Kafeel had indicated that he would not be able to contact them for long and that the “white men” may not provide any information about him.
The sources said they were also finding out who all the two brothers had contacted here during their visit in May.
Besides, the details of phone calls made by them, their e-mails are also being checked, they said.
When contacted, Karnataka’s Director-General and Inspector-General of Police K.R. Sreenivasan said the conduits in the terror attack have to be traced and they were at it.
The police questioned the family members of the suspects at their house in Banashankari on Friday after a similar exercise they had carried out on Thursday. Zakia Ahmed, mother of the suspects, and her daughter were taken to an undisclosed place for further questioning. The women were accompanied by their lawyers. They were sent home in the evening.
Bangalore Police Commissioner Neelam Achuta Rao told presspersons that they were yet to confirm where the suspects were indoctrinated.
