‘What prompted the Transport Minister to take a hasty decision?’

DAVANGERE: Activists of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) staged demonstrations in front of the Davangere Bus Stand on Monday in protest against the increase in bus fare.

The agitators, led by G.S. Rudresh, condemned the move and questioned the propriety of the Government in taking the decision when the transport corporations had been earning profits.

The increase in bus fare caused inconvenience to the people who were hit by the rise in prices of all commodities. Farmers were adversely affected by the vagaries of nature and they stand to lose crores of rupees owing to floods and drought.

When this is the situation, what prompted the Transport Minister to take a hasty decision to increase bus fare, they asked.

By increasing the bus fare, the Government had shown that it was anti-people, Mr. Rudresh said.

T.V.S. Raju, convenor of the SUCI, in his address, demanded that the Government withdraw the decision in the interests of the common man.
