Manipal: A man allegedly murdered his wife at Kuntal Kadu near Manipal on suspicion that she was involved in illicit relations with others.

According to police, Basavaraja, from Layadagundi in Badami taluk of Bagalkot district, reported before police in Manipal on Tuesday that on Sunday, his brother-in-law Rudrappa Gowda had taken wife Gauravva and him from Ambagilu in Udupi to Manipal promising to get them work. On reaching Kuntal Kadu near Manipal, Rudrappa told Basavaraja to wait for some time. Rudrappa then took his wife into the Kuntal Kadu forest.

When Rudrappa and his wife did not return till 4 p.m., Basavaraja left for home. Rudrappa came home alone at night. After persistent questioning, he reportedly said that he had murdered his wife. A case has been registered.
