BANGALORE: A large number of devotees recited verses from the Soundarya Lahari composed by Adi Sankara on the Universal Mother, at the Palace Grounds here on Sunday. The event marked the conclusion of the weeklong Sankara Yashovaibhava organised by Vedanta Bharati. The devotees, who came from different parts of the State, recited 100 verses of the Soundarya Lahari for nearly an hour. The swamiji's Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamiji of Sringeri Sharadapeetam, Sri Swaroopa- nanda Saraswati Mahaswamji of Paschimamnya Dwaraka and Uttramamnya Jothipeetham Badari and Sri Nischalananda Saraswathi Mahaswamiji of Poorvamnya Govardhanapeetham participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamji said Soundarya Lahari was all about the Universal Mother. Stressing the importance of mother's role in one's life, the swamji said she is the saviour of those in crisis. The present generation should be made aware of the importance of motherhood, he said. Sri Nischalananda Saraswati Maha- swamiji said there was a need to preserve and protect Sanatana Dharma. He said political parties were creating division among the castes and were nullifying the essence of Hinduism.
