Bangalore: A high-level Chinese delegation led by Vice-Governor of Jiangsu Province Zhang Taolin called on Minister for Kannada and Culture H.S. Mahadeva Prasad here on Tuesday.

A cultural delegation from Karnataka is presently in China's Jiangsu Province.

Earlier in the day, the nine-member Chinese delegation visited several information technology companies and other places of interest as part of a one-day visit to the State. They met several members of the Chinese community working in some of the information technology companies here. The delegation is on a five-day visit to the country.

Mr. Prasad and Principal Secretary to Government, Department of Kannada and Culture, I.M. Vittal Murthy told reporters that the Chinese delegation showed keen interest on understanding the culture and traditions of the State and its people. They also wanted to know about places of tourist interest and historical sites, especially Hampi.

Among the members of the delegation were Xie Zhengyi, Director-General, Jiangsu Information Industry Department; Yang Rui, Deputy Director-General, Jiangsu Science and Technology Department; and Xu Jiaming, Director of the E-Government Building Centre under the general office of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government.

Asked about the Vishwa Kannada Sammelan, Mr. Prasad said it would be held in September, well before the Suvarna Karnataka celebrations drew to a close in November. The Government was gearing up for the sammelan, he said.
