DAVANGERE: Anti-social elements are settling down in Bellary where mining operations were going on unbridled and huge money was flowing there. If the situation continued like this, Bellary would cease to be a safe place, Tourism Minister B. Sriramulu has said.

Talking to presspersons at the Harihar Guest House on Thursday, he said that he did not want Bellary to become a place like Bihar.

He said he had been instructing the police to curb the movement of anti-social elements.

A few senior police officials of the district had not been listening to his advice and this had resulted in the murder of a minority leader a few days ago.

There had been five cases of murder in Bellary, of which were politically motivated, he said. These murders could have been prevented had the police been a bit alert, Mr. Sriramulu said. He said he had tendered his resignation since he felt guilty of having failed to give protection to the people. Mr. Sriramulu said he had brought the situation in Bellary to the notice of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediruappa and Home Minister M.P. Prakash.

Mr. Kumaraswamy had assured him that there would be reshuffling of police officers there, Mr. Sriramulu said.

To a question, he said that he had no differences with the Home Minister.'
