BANGALORE: Youth Congress workers staged a demonstration here on Monday in protest against the recent arrest of the former Deputy Chief Minister and Chamundeshwari MLA Siddaramaiah by the Mysore police.

The Youth Congress workers staged a dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue near Anand Rao Circle and raised slogans against the State Government condemning the arrest.

Addressing the protesters, the former Minister H.M. Revanna said Mr. Siddaramaiah's arrest was an act of political vendetta. The coalition Government was trying to silence the Opposition parties by using coercive means, he alleged.

The police had arrested Mr. Siddaramaiah and Congress party workers at the behest of Janata Dal (Secular) leaders, he alleged and demanded action against the police officers concerned.

The former Bangalore Mayor J. Huchappa and Congress leader S.T. Somashekar were present on the occasion.
