Block Education Officers told to visit schools frequentlyZP officials told to take up drinking water schemes
CHITRADURGA: Deputy Director of the Department of Public Instruction Nagendrappa has said that four teachers of Hosadurga taluk have been suspended following allegations of misuse of power and swindling of funds meant for students' scholarships.
Mr. Nagendrappa was responding to a clarification sought by Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat V. Rangaswamy on the action taken against erring teachers at the monthly Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting here on Thursday.
The four teachers are V. Manjappa of Pani Kattadahatti village, N. Parameshwarappa of Doddaghatta, M.S. Jayappa of Doddaghatta and K.T. Srinivasmurthy of Bisanhalli Lambanihatti. All four had been employed at higher primary schools, Mr. Nagendrappa said.
Mr. Rangaswamy, who was chairing his first KDP meeting after assuming charge recently, told Mr. Nagendrappa to take strict action against the teachers. "Merely cutting their increments will not serve any purpose," he said, and added that inquiries against teachers should be conducted in a time-bound manner. He also said that all Block Education Officers should visit schools frequently to ensure transparency.
Following allegations against the Karnataka Land Army Corporation of delaying construction projects, Mr. Rangaswamy directed its officials to complete them before April to avoid an escalation of their estimated costs, which, he said, would only lead to further delay.
He also reviewed the engineering projects being carried out by the zilla panchayat, and directed its officials to take up drinking water projects on priority as the district was facing an acute water shortage.
When his attention was drawn to a vacant post in the Social Welfare Department, Mr. Rangaswamy ordered that all departments furnish lists of vacasnt posts, which would be submitted to the Government.
Zilla Panchayat president Timmanna and vice-president B. Gangadhar were also present.
