Belgaum: The Belgaum Jilla Swatantra Yodhara Shaikshanik Sangh has thanked the coalition Government for enhancing the monthly honorarium from Rs.1,500 to Rs. 3,000 for freedom fighters in the State.

In a release, sangh president S.A. Mugali recalled that a resolution was adopted at the centenary celebrations of freedom struggle urging the State Government to increase the honorarium.

The matter was pursued with Chief Minister H.D. Kumarswamy by veteran freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy and the former had responded to the concerns of freedom fighters.

Mr. Mulgali also drew the attention of the Government towards neglect of Khadi and Gram Udyog activities.

Despite growing threats from imported goods, the Khadi movement and village industries were being sustained by thousands of workers all over the state.

The Government should have announced a special package to boost the Khadi and village industries sector.
