PANAJI: Global wineries will participate for the first time in "The Great Escape", the annual three-day wine and cuisine festival to be organised here by Goa Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. (GTDC) from Tuesday.
"The `fiesta of flavour' seeks to encapsulate the vivacity of Goan lifestyle," said Fatima de Sa, Chairperson of GTDC, on Friday while announcing the festival programme.
"The festival promises to be a unique experience as the event will bring together international wine makers and local patrons, hoteliers, restaurants and professionals from the entertainment, fashion and food and beverage industry under one roof," said Ms. de Sa. Apart from leading local brands, some prominent wineries from Nasik, Bangalore and Delhi would participate in the festival.
"Some wineries from Argentina have confirmed participation. A few Australian wineries are talking to us for participation," Ms. de Sa said.
Held by the GTDC in collaboration with the hospitality industry and wine industry for the last three years, the festival is promoted not only as a tourist attraction but also as a major boost to the wine industry.
"The festival will project the growth of wine market in the State. Goa is today perceived as a lucrative wine market," said Managing Director of Goa Tourism Development Corporation Ltd., Sanjit Rodrigues.
From four stalls in the first year of the festival, the number of participants has gone up to around 15 this year.
Mr. Rodrigues said the market for wines was growing in Goa annually at a rate of 70-80 per cent.
"Special wine-tasting sessions will be one of the attractions of the festival.
These sessions will be conducted by Chateau Indage Winery, the partner winery of the festival, on all the three days," Mr. Rodrigues said.
