MANGALORE: The fourth Beary Sahitya Sammelan will be held at the Chikmagalur District Vokkaligara Samaj Bhavan, Chikmagalur, on February 27.

The theme of the sammelan, which is being jointly organised by Kendra Beary Sahitya Parishat, Mangalore, and Chikmagalur Bearyigalla Okkoota, is prosperity through literature, development through education and integrity for security.

M.B. Abdul Rahman, president of the parishat, told presspersons here on Friday that the organisers had constituted various sub-committees comprising 200 eminent persons from the community for the success of the event.

A colourful procession of the president of the sammelan, exhibition reflecting Beary culture, honouring achievers from the community, and release of books and cassettes, would mark the event, he said.

Seminars, poets' meet and cultural programmes have also been organised as part of the event, he said, adding that the parishat was expecting Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy at the event.

Dr. Rahman said the organisers were expecting at least 5,000 delegates, comprising eminent citizens from the community and writers, to attend the event from all over the State, country and abroad.

The sammelan would dwell issues such as official recognition to the language by the State Government, setting up of Beary Sahitya Academy, and recognition to the community as linguistic minority, he said.

Dr. Rahman announced that the parishat had selected eminent Beary writer Fakir Mohammad Katpady as president of the sammelan.

A recipient of Rajyotsava award in 2001, Mr. Mohammad had also won awards from various organisations for his contribution to literature.
