  • Seminar on the historical and cultural background of Gulbarga taluk will be conducted
  • Poets' meet to be organised

    GULBARGA: The first-ever Gulbarga Taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelana will be held at Srinivas Saradgi village, on the outskirts of Gulbarga city on January 11.

    President of the Gulbarga Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat, T. Bhagyamma, told presspersons that although the parishat was established way back in 1915, it was for the first time that the sahitya sammelana was being held this year. Poet and writer Shivakavi Hiremath Jogur was elected president of the sammelana.


    Prof. Bhagyamma said the sammelana would be held at Chikkaveereshwr Samasthan Hiremath and would be inaugurated by secretary of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Jayamma Karianna, in the presence of Agricultural Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur, Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik and Chief of the Chikkaveereshwar Samasthan Hiremath Sri Revanasidda Shivacharyaru.

    Prior to the inauguration, Shivakavi Hiremath Jogur would be taken in a procession to the venue of the sammelana. A seminar will be organised to highlight the historical and cultural background of Gulbarga taluk.

    Writers and professors from Gulbarga University, including M.S. Patil, T.M. Bhaskar, Vasudev Sedam, Shivaraj Herur, S.S. Patil, and Vaman Shenoy, would deliver lectures on different topics including Sahitya Dharshana of Gulbarga taluk, its economic status, rural health, and the taluk's contribution to Sharana Sahitya. A poets' meet would also be held. Several writers and personalities would be honoured.

    Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society president Basavaraj Bhimalli, who was the chairman of the Reception Committee, had decided to offer free food to all participants of the sammelana. More than 6,000 delegates were expected to take part.
