Udupi: K.M. Kaveriappa, Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, said on Sunday that historian Paduru Gururaja Bhat had laid the foundation for the study of the cultural history of the Tulunadu region.

He was speaking after releasing “Tulunadu”, a book authored by Bhat, here. This book in Kannada, which dwells on the history of Tulunadu, was first published in 1963. It was reprinted by Paduru Gururaja Bhat Memorial Trust, which was inaugurated by Dr. Kaveriappa. Dr. Kaveriappa said that Bhat had struggled financially for his education, even getting a Ph.D. But he loved research. He believed that getting a doctorate was the beginning of research and not an end in itself.
