‘Cancer treatment should be made affordable’
Scheme to make Karnataka a healthy State by 2020
SHIMOGA: Minister for Energy K.S. Eshwarappa opened a Linear Accelator (LINAC) Centre at the Malnad Hospital and Institute of Oncology in Bidare on Shimoga-Bhadravati Road on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he lauded the efforts of the hospital in providing sophisticated cancer treatment. The hospital should provide treatment to people suffering from cancer at an affordable cost irrespective of their financial status, he said.
Referring to the controversy over shifting of staff of the McGann Hospital here to the Government Hospital at Shikaripur, he said all the staff would be retained in the McGann Hospital as it was the major district hospital. The Opposition parties were making false allegation in this regard. Patients would not have any kind of problem in the McGann Hospital, he said.
Shimoga MP B.Y. Raghavendra said that the cancer hospital was spreading awareness on the disease. The Government would provide financial assistance to poor patients to undergo treatment in the hospital.
Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Commission D.H. Shankaramurthy, who presided over the function, said that the Planning Commission was working out a scheme in association with the Chairman of the Health Care Global Enterprises Ltd, Ajaikumar, to make Karnataka a healthy State by 2020.
He said Dr. Ajaikumar, who was the member of the State Planning Commission, had been approached for his guidance and suggestions to be incorporated in the action plan in the next budget.
Dr. Ajaikumar welcomed the gathering. Director of the hospital Mallesh Hullamani proposed a vote of thanks.
