Bangalore: Opposing the Lok Adalat’s order directing the closure of 14 government hospitals for not having liquid waste disposal units, members of the Rajajinagar zonal committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday staged a protest in front of the K.C. General Hospital.
Shouting slogans against the Government for not upgrading its hospitals and providing modern facilities for poor patients, the CPI(M) members led by their zonal secretary Gopalkrishna Aralhalli demanded that the Government submit an appeal urging the Lok Adalat to reconsider its order.
“It is unfortunate that the government officials did not respond to four notices of the Lok Adalat directing the hospitals to set up liquid waste disposal units on their premises. Why should poor patients who cannot afford to visit private doctors suffer for the callousness of the Government and lackadaisical attitude of the officials? Let the Lok Adalat take the Government to task for not implementing its directions,” Mr. Aralahalli said.
The members submitted a memorandum at the Chief Minister’s Office.
Members of CITU Auto Drivers Union, Janawadi Mahila Sanghatane and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) participated in the protest.
