GULBARGA: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R.V. Deshpande have agreed to participate in the valedictory function of the Bhagwad Gita Abhiyan programme on December 15.

Chairman of the Bhagwad Gita Abhiyan Samiti and chief of the Sonde Swarnavalli Samasthana Gangadarendra Saraswathi told presspersons here on Wednesday that more than 25,000 children from different schools who had learnt the verses of the Bhagvad Gita during the 40-day awareness programme in the district, would participate in the daylong celebrations called “Bhagwad Gita Mahasamarpana Samaramba”.

Home Minister V.S. Acharya, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Visveshwar Hegde Kageri, and the former Governor of Bihar Rama Jois would participate in the valedictory ceremony.

The chairman of the samiti said the valedictory ceremony would begin in the morning with a congregation of religious heads of various maths in the State. Prominent among those who will participate in the congregation are the head of the Pejawar Math Sri Visvesha Tirtha and the head of the Moorusavira Mutt.

This would be followed by Bhagwad Gita Sloka Samarpana by 25,000 children.

Cultural fare

The valedictory session will include rich cultural fare by artistes from different parts of the State. Vijayalaxmi and her troupe from Yellapur in Uttara Kannada district will perform a dance drama titled “Geetamurhtha Guhe Namaha”, and this will be followed by a performance by Yakshagana artistes.

The concluding ceremony will be preceded by weeklong religious discourses.
