Road connecting Sampaje with Kushalnagar is in bad shape

Madikeri: Kodagu Deputy Commissioner M.K. Baladevakrishna on Wednesday asked officials of Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd. (KRDCL) to immediately start work on the road connecting Sampaje with Kushalnagar in the district.

The stretch is part of the Mysore-Mani (Bantwal) road project. The stretch connects Sampaje with Kushalnagar via Madikeri.

People had been complaining about the poor condition of the road and the difficulty they were facing owing to this, Mr. Baladevakrishna told the officials after a meeting with them, according to an official press release.

Work on the Sampaje-Kushalnagar road should be completed by monsoon next, he said.

KRDCL officials, Devaraj and Venkatesh, explained to Mr. Baladevakrishna the problems in executing the work, saying that gravel available at quarries in and around Guddehosur (which is located near Kushalnagar) are not suitable for the work.

Contractors in-charge of the work told Mr. Baladevakrishna that they had inspected almost every quarry in and around Guddehosur to find suitable gravel, but to no avail. They were prepared to buy stones available near Kallur, but objections by the public for removal of the boulders there had come in their way, they said.

Men and machineries were available at the Hunsur camp, they said and added that if enough quantity of stones were available, they would start the work on the stretch without any delay. Widening the road in the absence of gravel could affect vehicular movement, they said.
