DAVANGERE: The Parvathamma Shamanur Shivashankarappa Residential School here will host the south zone swimming competitions for CBSE school students from October 2 to October 5.

Speaking to journalists here on Tuesday, K. Imam, director of the school, said that over 100 schools from five States such as Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands would participate in the competitions.

Over 400 boys and 200 girls were expected to take part. Siddu Kerusur, swimming coach, said winners would be eligible to take part in the national swimming competitions to be held in Baroda, Gujarat, in November.

A swimming pool had been built according to international standards, in the school, he said and added that the required arrangements had been made to conduct the competitions successfully. Ekalavya Award-winner and Olympian Hakimuddin will inaugurate the competitions, while S.S. Ganesh, chairman of the school, will preside over the inaugural function. Principal of the school, Rajiv Raghavan, was present.
