‘People in the State are feeling insecure under BJP rule’

SHIMOGA: The president of the Shimoga District Congress Committee, R. Prasanna Kumar, said here on Friday that the allegations made by the former Shimoga MP, Ayanur Manjunath, that the Congress workers were allegedly involved in desecration of the Minar at Idgah Maidan in Sagar town were baseless and far from truth.

Speaking at a press conference, Mr. Kumar said that Mr. Manjunath had also alleged that former minister Kagodu Thimmappa had provoked his party workers to carry out the desecration. The allegation was not only misleading but also provocative, Mr. Kumar said.

Mr Prasanna Kumar noted that Mr. Manjunath should withdraw his statements against the Congress and Mr. Thimmappa. Coming down heavily on the communal forces, the president of the Sagar Taluk Congress Committee, T.N. Srinivas, said that the Bajrang Dal and other organisations were creating unrest among people.

Mr. Srinivas noted that in order to gain people’s sympathy, the Bajrang Dal raised the issue of Bababudangiri as a result of which the Bharaqtiya Janata Party had won elections in Chikmagalur district. They created fear among people and gained votes in Dakshina Kannada district too, he added.

Mr. Srinivas said that the Bajrang Dal seemed to think that it had got license from the BJP to create communal hatred in the State.

“With the BJP coming to power in the State, people were feeling insecure”, he said.
