Bangalore: The National Commission for Economically Backward Classes on Friday held meetings with the Minister for Social Justice and other representatives of the State Government to seek their views on criteria for identifying economically backward classes and the quantum of reservation and welfare measures to be extended to them.

The Commission was constituted in 2006 to “study the status of classes not covered by the existing reservation policy” and to suggest criteria to identify the economically backward among them and suggest reservations or welfare measures such as subsidies in higher education and free medical services.

The meeting was held with D. Sudhakar, Minister for Social Welfare and Bharat Lal Meena, Secretary Social Welfare.
