Action plan prepared after Chief Minister’s advice
Madikeri: An action plan involving Rs. 5 crore is ready for seeking approval and funds from the State Government to take up various development work in the Madikeri Taluk Panchayat limits such as roads, drinking water and others, outgoing president of the panchayat, Napanda Ravi Kalappa, said here on Monday.
He was speaking to presspersons here. Mr. Kalappa, who tendered resignation after completing 10 months in office, will hand over charge to another member Nagesh Kundalpadi.
He said a delegation from the panchayat, led by him, had met Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Rural Development Minister Shobha Karandlaje in Bangalore recently, seeking special grants to develop areas coming under the taluk panchayat. They had suggested to him to finalise an action plan.
Mr. Kalappa, however, regretted that taluk panchayats were not getting enough grants for taking up development works.
He had written to the State Government seeking changes in the programmes and diversion of funds received from the Malnad Area Development Board (MADB) as certain works could not be taken up owing to hilly terrains in Madikeri taluk.
For instance, construction of Ambedkar Bhavan, anganwadi centres, libraries in remote, hilly areas was difficult, he said.
During his tenure, he had spent Rs. 3.90 crore received as grant from various sources in the Government. Mr. Kalappa said and added that he had utilised the grants fruitfully. As many as 12 areas had been identified in the taluk for establishing “Navagrama” villages.
The district administration had been requested to change the khata of the lands in the name of the taluk panchayat to speed up the work, Mr. Kalappa said.
Of the target of 842 houses in Madikeri taluk under various housing schemes in the last 10 months, 138 were completed and the others were in different stages of completion, he added.
Panchayat vice-president Anand Raghu, Executive Officer Motappa and Mr. Kundalpadi were present.
