11-foot statue of Basaveshwara to be installed in the city

GADAG: District in-charge Minister B. Sriramulu has said that the process to identify 200 acres of land for building an airport at Gadag has begun.

He was speaking after hoisting the national flag at the K.H. Patil Stadium here on Friday.

Mr. Sriramulu said that the Government had initiated the process to build a 250-bed hospital at a cost of Rs. 22 crore in Gadag.

The Minister said that a comprehensive plan to shift 11 flood-prone villages in the district was ready. Steps had been taken to build “zilla rangamandir”, “suvarna rangamandir” and Ambedkar Bhavan. A Rs. 80-lakh project for developing Lakkundi as a tourist spot had been prepared.

Mr. Sriramulu said that steps were being taken to install a 111-foot statue of Basaveshwara at the Bhishma Kere here.

Interest

Some Gujarat-based industrialists had evinced interest in setting up a steel factory in the district and they would hold discussions in this regard on August 18, he said.

The Minister felicitated 13 persons, including freedom fighters Chanabasappa K. Kadappanavar and Bangarappa B. Tadasad.

He gave away sports awards to 11 persons and certificates to 10 students who had passed national-level examinations of Scouts and Guides.

MLA Shrishailappa Bidaruru, zilla panchayat in-charge president Iramma Hattimani, the former MLA D.R. Patil, Deputy Commissioner N. Sriraman, and Superintendent of Police B.S. Prakash were present.

Schoolchildren presented cultural programmes on the occasion.
