BANGALORE: City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari has directed deputy commissioners of police (DCPs) to submit reports by August 10 on discotheques that are operating without licence.

He has asked them to initiate disciplinary action against police inspectors in whose jurisdiction such joints are operating.

Mr. Bidari’s order comes in the wake of the petition by live band owners pending before the High Court. The owners of live bands alleged that there were a number of discotheques running without the mandatory licence from the Police Commissioner.

Mr. Bidari appeared before the High Court on Friday and clarified that no licences had been issued and promised action against illegal discotheques. In the order issued on Friday, Mr. Bidari asked the DCPs to verify whether there were any discotheques operating without licences. It any such discotheques were found, they should be closed. Action should be taken against the jurisdictional police inspector for his negligence/connivance in allowing such discotheques, he said.
